Change your Major?
My younger cousin is struggling with catching up with her college classes following taking a week off to be with her sister who was in ICU. On a whim, I called her tonight and we talked for an hour. At the end, I asked her if she would like for me to place her on the Loft prayer list and she said YES. I told her I might also ask the pastors specifically to pray for her. I told her that Andy said to send prayer requests to Terence because his power was off 3 days and Andy's was off for two weeks. She said...YES, have Pastor Terence especially pray! She is also training for a marathon and perhaps a triathlon. It is my understanding that both Pastor Andy and Pastor Terence run, sometimes long distances. So, if you could pray a prayer or two for a fellow runner, I'd be grateful. She is struggling and says that the kids who are pulling an all night drinking session are getting the same grades as her and it is humbling. I think the stress of everything is keeping her from doing her best. I know she is smart as she already has her upper level math classes under her belt. Biology, however, is proving to be challenging. I told her that she could always do what I did and change her major!

Ten Days & Try Again
Surgery #2 was not a success, so it's antibiotics and steroids for 10 days for my cousin and try again. Thanks to everyone who even took the time to read this entry and who may send a little prayer up. At the end of my morning prayers I say with my daughter I always include everyone out there who is struggling in any way.

Teacups/More Surgery
Today is surgery #2, but hopefully it is outpatient surgery unless something goes awry. I got my energy level up by listening to "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" and some of the Loftmedia videos. I guess I should be watching God Tube instead of You Tube and maybe that's how life is in a perfect world filled with grown-ups. Personally, I'd rather do like the Uptown girls Brittney Murphey and Dakota Fanning and ride in a teacup round and round until I'm so dizzy I throw up! And Molly is right. There are no grown-ups here. At least I don't see any. Rob Renfroe preached ont that as well...no grown ups and people "act" happier than they truly are. No truer words have been spoken.

Stuffed With Thankfulness
I am asking for continued prayers to cover my cousin as she goes through phase II of her recovery process which includes more testing and another surgical procedure. I took down a book she gave me that she wanted me to read. When she was young, I would often read to her with one hand on a book and one arm around her. I would read the text and then she would embellish and retell the story to me. When my younger cousin arrived, I was old enough to carry her around and people often thought she might be mine. Despite all of this, we spent 13 unlucky years estranged and had to spend time reconnecting. She didn't meet my daughter until she was ins school. I couldn't imagine having to tell my daughter that my cousin was no longer with us. I asked my daughter to pray for her and it was a lackluster prayer until I said, "Okay, here's the deal...she's in the hospital and she is very ill"... REALLY PRAY. Tears shot out of her eyes and she turned her head towards the window and wept. After my cousin was better, my daughter and I returned to the church to pray. My daughter said...why are we here...we don't have anything to pray for. I asked her to pray with me. I asked her what her prayer was and she said, "I'm giving prayers of thanks"....This November we have more to be thankful for than usual. Last night, my daughter and I watched the "Stuffied" videos and just cracked up laughing. Keep them coming! The prayers and the funny videos.

Dr. and Mrs. Robb are in India for two weeks and are part of the team that will help lead an International Leadership Institute conference next week. The following update came from Mrs. Robb: Please be in prayer for Ed as he decides what to preach tomorrow night And Sunday at the church revival meetings on the coast, and for the conference next week. He’s really anxious to preach in a way that will communicate effectively to the local population here. Also, we’ll be taking a train tomorrow from Chennai to the town on the coast where the tsunami hit and that’s where he’ll preach first. Pray for travel safety. It’s raining torrents here and the streets flood terribly when it rains. Pray for good rest tonight and safe travels tomorrow. Thanks so much. One more thing. We just learned that a group here in India has disrupted the train service and has been setting trains on fire today because of a political issue - their leader was arrested yesterday. Face Your Fears/You Go, Girl
Thank you for the Face Your Fears series. After trying to explain 7th grade math which includes pre-algebra/algebra to a teen, I decided to take advantage of the math teacher being at school from 4-5. I was afraid my daughter wouldn't go, but I told her if she came out front instead of heading to the math classroom after school, I'd be happy to hold her hand and walk her down the hall just like in kindergarten. She glared that teen glare but went for the extra hour. Thankfully, every other subject is not a problem. I spoke with my sister last night, a school principal. She advised to continue tutoring. She says, "You can get a lot done in an hour." My sister is my hero. When she became a principal, someone gave her a magnet that said, "You go, girl." Please pray for her and for all the educators who dedicate their lives to serving others. She was called and answered the call. She took a school with 40% or more and turned it into a Blue Ribbon school but says it was the teachers, not her. I teased her after her trip to Washington, D.C. when she was going to get a driver to take her to school. She makes it a point to know all her kids, to be out there loading cars and loading the kids on to buses, to be there early in the morning and staying late. Lately, she has admitted to feeling a little discouraged and needing to come down here and go to church with me. She knows she is always welcome to come visit. So I ask for a prayer, but I also give thanks for twumc/the loft. I don;t know if the pastors fully grasp how meaningful their messages are and how they open doors for talks. I find myself saying, "Don't be a lazy lion"..."The garments don' t matter" "If you won't take a lap for me (run), would you take one for Jesus?" and also, "face your fears"... I can not wait for the series on Revelations. My grandmother taught Sunday school and she was always studying Revelations. Pray for all servants everywhere who face their fears and answer the call!

Stop This Train/Home
Please pray for my cousins, sister, mom and mother-in-law who are all struggling with different issues. I realized I had neglected my sister, my mom, mother-in-law and others by focusing all my energy on my cousin. My cousin has her mom there, friends, extended family and her sister when she can be there. Those who can't be there (like myself) are staying in touch by phone and with cards/mail. My cousin was in grave danger but pulled through and now has her sense of humor back and just wants to go home. She was close and then a CAT scan revealed some other issues, i.e. a kidney stone that isn't going anywhere as of right now. She's had two surgeries and is looking at 2-3 more. I listened to John Mayer's "Stop This Train" (I want to get off and go home again) and Sheryl Crow's "Home"...do you see a theme developing here? Do you ever want to just go home and have it be like it used to be? If I need to shed some tears, I go to my cousin's myspace and listen to her song on there which is Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" or I cue up Al Greene's "Raining in my Heart"...when you can't pray anymore, sometimes it is good to just light candles and let the tears flow for a while. I shed a few tears with the clip from "Forrest Gump" when Jenny came "home" because I know how great it feels when you haven't seen someone in a long time and you just grab them and hold on to them like you might not ever see them again. . .

Emergency Surgery
I just got a phone call that my dear, sweet cousin is having emergency surgery in Austin, Tx. Her mom is 14 hrs. away and called me sobbing. I told her I'd immediately put her daughter (my cousin) on the prayer request list. The situation is serious. Please pray for strength for her mother and healing hands for the surgeons and nursing staff. My cousin didn't call me because she didn't want to interrupt my life. She always thinks of others before herself and just recently volunteered at the Red Cross and gave her keys to the church with a basic...use it however you need it. She's an angel unaware. Prayer Request: Our 13 year old son, Jordan, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (testing positive for pancreas antibodies - doctors say it is incurable and unstoppable) on September 5, 2008. He was also diagnosed as having hypothyroidism. As 6-year missionaries to Kenya, we praise God that we were in the States when this diagnosis came. We are requesting prayers for a miracle healing of Jordan – complete and total. To the glory of God. Also, for a 13 year old friend, diagnosed the same this year, named Drew who also lived overseas for awhile. They were both diagnosed within a few months of returning to the States. Thank you. An urgent email was received this morning from ILI South Asia International Directors, Peter and Esther Pereira. Heavy persecution throughout northern India has led to several deaths and the ILI team has been directly affected. Peter and Esther write: In Orissa, a state north of Hyderabad, persecution is escalating. Yesterday, the radicals killed a nun from the orphanage by setting her on fire. This is the same state where the missionary Graham Stains and his two sons were burned alive in their jeep a few years ago. One of our ILI team members from the Kurdha District tried to distribute pamphlets for an upcoming ILI regional conference but was beaten and drenched in diesel fuel to be set on fire. By the grace of GOD, the match did not strike. They attempted seven times to light the match before the police finally came to the ILI team member’s rescue. He is now recovering in the hospital. ILI East India Regional Coordinator, Bikas, has suffered damage to all five of his branch churches and informed me that his main church is on a “hit list.” Already, a believer from one of his branch churches has been burned alive. While I am writing you this email, two churches are under attack. I just spoke to Bikas and he has asked us to pray. He is okay for now, but desperately needs our prayer. He estimates that the violence will continue for another 10-15 days. This state government is anti-Hindu and their response to help has been slow. Gone Too Soon
I heard today about two young lives that ended too soon. A New Orleans based co-worker's 21 year old son died suddenly of a brain hemorrage last Tuesday morning. Please pray for his family to help them cope with their loss. And my 15 year old daughter informed me that the 18 year old brother of a friend of hers apparently hung himself at home in Slidell, LA last night (Sunday). This news is so hard for a parent to hear. Please pray for his family and pray for his troubled soul.

Update on my Niece
My niece Elizabeth has fully recovered and is home from the hospital! The doctors say that she will outgrow this type of seizure. God is so good! -Rozlyn

My husband's sister-in-law Toby has been diagnosed with 3rd degree breast cancer both breasts. It's such a shock as she is such a healthy person. May God do a miracle and heal her. Thanks so much

Sister's custody trial
My sister's ex-husband is being especially cruel to her right now, and he is trying to take her son away. He is 8 years old, and he was recently diagnosed with dyslexia, something his mother struggled with while in school. His father denies that his son has a problem, and he is trying to take him away from his mother. She just recently moved to Texas to be in better schools and be near family. God provided a job and a place to live for her. Please pray that her ex-husband changes his heart, and that God will make him a new creation.

Nephew's Deployment Update
My nephew ended up not going overseas, after all. They had actually made the decision before he got to his duty station at Camp Shelby, but didn't tell him. I praise God, though, for keeping him home. He had a reason, I am sure.

Vietnamese Bus victims
Pray for those killed and injured in a bus accident yesteray in Sherman. Buses of Vietnamese Catholics from a Houston church were headed to Missouri. My wife, Carolyn, has a colleague at work whose Mother was in one of the buses.

Nephew's Deployment
My nephew Justin is deploying to Iraq in about a month. He's nineteen years old, and he finished boot camp about two months ago. Please pray for his protection and for this to be an opportunity for the Lord to draw him close. Pray also for my sister, Lisa, as she deals with her only child being away at war.

My cousin's, daughter, Laurie, is battling intestinal cancer. She and her husband recently adopted a child from Russia, since they couldn't have children. Laurie had been cancer free for 6 years. Please pray for Laurie to have strength as she battles this new cancer, for her husband to have courage, and for the family to have hope.

Ian, a 5 year old in a coma
On their way to a wedding on July 3, my cousin, Stephanie and her husband Tod and their 3 young children, Ian, 5 yrs, Loren, 2 yrs, and Luke, 1 yrs, were in a car accident which killed Stephanie and Tod. Loren and Luke are doing well, each have a broken arm. Ian is still a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah in a coma, but not needing life support. In addition to being extremely devastated by the death of our cousin, we are praying and worrying about the fate of their 3 children and the health of little Ian, who is a wonderful boy. Please pray for my family and for Ian and Loren and Luke.
